Here are my new batch of chickens I got this year, I was originally wanting small bantam chickens, having them previously and only the one of them left remaining to keep her company. I tried hatching “Dutch bantam” eggs bought online several times with no luck, so I scoured though gumtree waiting for the opportunity, but after weeks and still no small hens available I went for some giant Brahmas and anything else that was going. Standard brown laying hens are quite easy to get from places like https://www.facebook.com/thelittlehenhelpers/ up here in the northeast of Scotland, however I prefer more ornamental types because I like keeping them as pets as well as layers.

The white with black speckled “hackle feathers” neck at the top is a 7-month-old white/Light Sussex (amongst the oldest breeds dating back to Roman Briton two thousand years ago !), the two in the middle are a male and female bearded salmon faverolles, the black one is a Brahma cross and the large speckled one is a very dozy male splash Brahma. Lots of info about different breeds can be found here https://www.chickensandmore.com/brahma-chicken/

The little black one is a five month Ayam Cemani cross (don’t know what with) standing next to “The Big Boy” Blue/grey seven month old Brahma.

The smallest white ones are from the five month old Cemani, the medium sized brown eggs are from the Sussex, the medium sized pale egg is from a white Leghorn and the large egg is either a faverolle or a Brahma.
These last two pictures are from my last batch I had hatched, that sadly died off one by one with only my Black Grumpy still living (she’s about 4 year old now).
